Why repot with Shridhara Botanic Mix?
Most houseplants outgrow their soil long before they outgrow their pots. Old media becomes compacted, drains poorly, and runs out of nutrients. Shridhara Botanic Mix is a premium, ready-to-use organic potting blend crafted for indoor and outdoor plants—no extra mixing of soil, sand, cocopeat, or manure needed.
The mix is designed to:
Provide balanced nutrients and good moisture retention
Stay light and airy for strong root growth
Reduce mess and prep time for busy plant parents
Step 1: Check if your plant really needs repotting
Look for these signs that it is time to repot:
Roots circling the pot, growing out of the drainage holes, or visible on top of the soil
Water running straight through the pot or soil pulling away from the sides
Plant top-heavy, drying out too quickly, or growth noticeably slowed despite proper care
If you see one or more of these, plan a repot on a mild day—avoid extreme heat or peak afternoon sun.
Step 2: Choose the right pot and prep your mix
Pick a pot that is 1–2 inches wider in diameter than the current one for houseplants; oversized pots stay soggy and can cause root rot.
Make sure it has at least one drainage hole; add a small piece of mesh or a shard over the hole to prevent soil loss while still allowing water to flow.
Shridhara Botanic Mix comes pre-blended, so simply open the bag and lightly loosen any compressed lumps with your hands. There is no need to add extra compost, cocopeat, or sand unless you are customizing for special plants like succulents.
Step 3: Gently remove the plant from its old pot
Water the plant an hour before repotting so the root ball is slightly moist but not soggy; this reduces stress and helps the soil slide out.
Support the plant at the base of the stem, tilt or invert the pot, and tap the sides and bottom to loosen. Let the root ball slide out instead of pulling hard on the stem.
If the plant is stuck, run a clean knife along the inner rim of the pot or push gently through the drainage hole to release the root ball.
Place the plant on a tray or newspaper so you can work without making a mess indoors.
Step 4: Inspect and tidy the roots
Healthy roots are generally white to light brown and firm.
Gently tease apart circling roots and loosen the outer layer so they can grow outward into the new mix.
Trim away any black, mushy, or foul-smelling roots with clean, sterilised scissors or pruners.
Shake off a bit of exhausted soil so there is room for fresh Botanic Mix around the roots, but do not strip everything off unless the soil is very poor or pest-infested.
This small root clean-up encourages new, fine roots that absorb water and nutrients more efficiently.
Step 5: Set up the new pot with Botanic Mix
Add a base layer of Shridhara Botanic Mix to the bottom of the new pot. Aim for a height that will keep the plant at approximately the same soil level as before.
For moisture-loving plants, you can mix a small amount of extra compost or vermicompost into the bottom layer; for plants that prefer drier soil, use only Botanic Mix or add a little extra perlite if required.
Place the plant in the centre (or slightly off-centre for design) and spread the roots outward over this base layer.
Step 6: Backfill, firm lightly, and water well
Fill around the root ball with Shridhara Botanic Mix, adding in small handfuls and gently pressing to remove big air pockets while keeping the soil loose. Do not compact it hard—roots need air as much as water.
Leave about 2–3 cm of space below the rim of the pot to make watering easier and avoid overflow.
Water thoroughly until excess water drains from the bottom; this helps the mix settle around the roots and activates the organic components.
If the soil level drops a little after watering, top up with a thin layer of Botanic Mix and level it gently.
Step 7: Aftercare for the next 2–3 weeks
Newly repotted plants are a bit delicate, even with high-quality mix.
Keep them in bright, indirect light for a week or two; avoid harsh midday sun immediately after repotting.
Check moisture with your finger—water only when the top inch feels dry, as fresh mix tends to hold water better than old compacted soil.
Avoid heavy fertilisers or strong sprays for 2–3 weeks; Shridhara Botanic Mix already contains organic nutrition for initial growth.
Once you see fresh leaves or new growth tips, resume your regular feeding routine with Shridhara Vermicompost or GrowBoost spray if desired.
When to repot again – simple rules of thumb
Most houseplants in good-quality organic potting soil need repotting every 1–2 years. Check annually for:
Roots circling or emerging from drainage holes
Very fast drying of soil, or water pooling on the surface without soaking in
Stunted growth despite proper light and watering
Refreshing just the top 2–3 cm of soil with fresh Botanic Mix between full repots can keep indoor plants healthier for longer, especially in large decorative planters.
Using Shridhara Botanic Mix simplifies the entire repotting process—no guessing recipes, no hauling multiple bags, and far less mess in your living room. With the right pot size, gentle root care, and this ready-to-use soil, your houseplants get a softer, richer home for their roots and reward you with lusher, longer-lasting growth.
